Twenty-five K-12 educators from across the country will gather in San Diego in July 2024 to: learn from a faculty team that have developed extensive curriculum around comics; strategize how to navigate the challenges to using comics to teach social justice (including issues around “banned books”); explore SDSU’s extensive comics collection for pedagogical ideas and teachable content; participate in San Diego’s thriving local comics convention scene, specifically San Diego Comic-Con, as attendees and (for some, as panelists); in order to develop and share on a public-facing website comics-related lesson plans suitable to the grade-levels they teach and the content/skills standards of their state and disciplines.
