NEH is proud to fund a wide range of strategic initiatives that protect and expand access to the humanities across the United States.
A More Perfect Union
NEH’s A More Perfect Union initiative supports the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in July 4, 2026 by funding projects that enhance our understanding of the country’s founding period.

Humanities Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence
NEH’s special initiative Humanities Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence supports research projects that seek to understand and address the ethical, legal, and societal implications of artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative takes inspiration from NEH’s founding legislation, which tasks the agency with making the American people “masters of their technology and not its unthinking servants.”

Pacific Islands Cultural Initiative
NEH’s Pacific Islands Cultural Initiative is a strategic initiative that aims to strengthen the cultural and educational sectors in Amerika Samoa, Guåhan (Guam), Hawaiʻi, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI).

International Engagement
NEH’s international engagement with foreign governments, multilateral organizations, and other international partners fosters global understanding and collaboration in the humanities. By supporting cultural exchange and scholarly research, NEH helps to preserve and share the diverse heritage in the humanities, connecting American scholars, practitioners, and institutions with their counterparts around the world.
