The National Endowment for the Humanities is Inviting Applications for a Scholarly Conference Held in Collaboration with the National Autonomous University of Mexico
The National Endowment for the Humanities and the Humanities Department of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Coordinación de Humanidades de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México [UNAM]) are cooperating to foster the exchange of information and advance research in the humanities. NEH is inviting applications for scholarly conferences through the Collaborative Research program. United States nonprofit institutions and organizations are encouraged to apply for funding for a conference that aims to further humanities scholarship and includes participation by scholars from the United States and UNAM. Participants may also include other scholars from Mexico and other countries who are conducting research pertinent to the topic. A conference application, for example, may focus on the current status of research in a particular humanities field or fields that are of interest to a wide scholarly audience or focus on a single issue of binational scholarly concern.
Applications must be submitted by U.S. nonprofit organizations or institutions with IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, by U.S. state and local governments or tribal governments, or by project directors without an institutional affiliation (i.e., U.S. citizens or foreign nationals who have been living in the United States or its jurisdictions for at least the three years immediately preceding the application deadline); the conference itself, however, may include participants from Mexico and other countries. Prospective applicants are urged to discuss their ideas with the Collaborative Research program staff before proceeding to develop applications. Inquiries may be addressed to @email. The application deadline is October 28, 2010. NEH expects to award one cooperative agreement of up to $100,000 for support of the conference. The cooperative agreement must be at least twelve months in length.
Applicants should follow the specific instructions for conference proposals in the Collaborative Research guidelines and, in particular, those in section IV – Application and Submission Information.
Once an award is made, NEH will work closely with the recipient on the following activities:
- planning an opening conference session that includes representatives of the NEH and UNAM as speakers,
- planning one session designed for a wider public audience,
- making necessary revisions to the final conference agenda and to any additional activities planned for conference participants,
- reviewing and if necessary refining the plan for the dissemination of conference papers and summaries of discussion, and
- publicizing the conference.
Creando puentes entre culturas: Estudios en el área de las humanidades en México y en los Estados Unidos
La Coordinación de Humanidades de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) y The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) (La Fundación Nacional para las Humanidades) de los Estados Unidos están trabajando conjuntamente a fin de fomentar el intercambio informativo y fortalecer la investigación en el campo de las humanidades. La NEH invita a todas las instituciones interesadas a solicitar financiamiento para conferencias académicas a través del Programa de Investigación Colaborativa. El Programa está abierto a organizaciones e instituciones estadounidenses sin fines de lucro para el financiamiento de una conferencia cuyo propósito sea el de fortalecer y estimular la investigación académica en el campo de las humanidades y que cuente con la participación de académicos y expertos tanto de Estados Unidos como de la UNAM. Adicionalmente, el programa también incluye a académicos de México y de otros países que estén llevando a cabo investigaciones sobre los temas propuestos. La solicitud para realizar una conferencia, por ejemplo, puede enfocarse al estado actual de la investigación en un campo o campos de estudio específico que sean de interés para un grupo amplio de investigadores, o bien centrarse en un solo tema de interés académico binacional.
Las solicitudes deberán ser presentadas por el siguiente tipo de entidades estadounidenses: organizaciones sin fines de lucro, instituciones con estatus de IRS 501(c) (3), gobiernos estatales, locales o tribales, asi como por directores de proyectos sin ninguna afiliación institucional (ciudadanos estadounidenses o extranjeros que hayan sido residentes en los Estados Unidos o de una de sus jurisdicciones por un mínimo de tres años anteriores la fecha límite de la solicitud). La conferencia puede incluir académicos de México u otros países. La fecha límite para recibir las solicitudes es el 28 de octubre del 2010. La NEH espera otorgar un apoyo, regido por un acuerdo de cooperación, de hasta $100.000 dólares. El acuerdo de cooperación deberá tener una vigencia mínima de doce meses.
A todos los académicos y expertos interesados en participar en la planeación de una conferencia conjunta México-EU, se les invita a contactar a sus colegas estadounidenses quienes podrán preparar y presentar las solicitudes a la NEH.
