Nevada Humanities Presents “Great Basin Young Chautauqua Showcase” on May 31 and June 1

(May 25, 2019)

The Great Basin Young Chautauqua Showcase will feature a series of performances by Great Basin Young Chautauqua scholars centered around the 2019 program theme “American Dreamers.” Youth performances will feature historical characters that include: P.T. Barnum, Elizabeth Bisland, Nellie Bly, Johnny Cash, Jackie Cochran, Audrey Hepburn, Harry Houdini, Stan Lee, Abraham Lincoln, Annie Oakley, Edith Rosenbaum, Sally Ride, Shirley Temple, Elvis Presley, and Andy Warhol.

“For the past 27 years, Nevada Humanities has provided high-quality Young Chautauqua educational opportunities for youth in northern Nevada,” said Nevada Humanities Executive Director Christina Barr. “This year's group of Great Basin Young Chautauqua scholars are carrying forward this grand tradition with exciting performances at the Showcase. We guarantee you will be impressed with their entertaining and informative theatrical performances.”

This program is made possible with the generous support of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the City of Reno. Great Basin Young Chautauqua would not be possible without the help of our community partners who hosted public performances this season, including Artown, the Nevada Historical Society, Sundance Books and Music, Swill Coffee & Wine, and the Washoe County Library System.
