Wyoming Symphony Orchestra Pre-Concert Talk: "Dedication"
Chris Dragon will talk about his program “Dedication,” which features selections from Rossini, Rachmaninov and Elgar. Music has been used as a dedication of love, gratitude, and friendship. The Adagietto from Gustav Mahler’s fifth symphony was written as a musical love letter to his wife, Alma. Grateful for the help of Dr. Nikolai Dahl to overcome a severe depression, Rachmaninoff dedicated his second piano concerto to him as a token of gratitude. Pianist Steven Lin, prizewinner at the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition, takes you through the work’s dazzling technical fireworks and gorgeous lush melodies. Elgar’s collection of musical portraits from the Enigma Variations ends the evening.
