Fellowships Programs at Independent Research Institutions
The Fellowship Programs at Independent Research Institutions (FPIRI) program makes grants in support of fellowship programs for scholars administered by one of two groups: independent centers for advanced study, libraries, and museums in the United States; and American overseas research centers and other organizations that have expertise in promoting research on foreign cultures. The importance of funding centers is based on the special collections and resources available there and advantages for scholars to work collegially at the center as opposed to individually at separate institutions. Organizations that promote research on foreign cultures are chosen for funding because of their specialized services and expertise in administering fellowship programs. A comprehensive list of currently funded Institutions, as well as information on applying for their fellowships, can be found here.
