Earl Lewis

Earl Lewis is the president-designate of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, one of the country’s premier philanthropies supporting the humanities, liberal arts, and higher education. He assumes the presidency in March 2013. He has been provost, executive vice president for academic affairs, and Asa Griggs Candler Professor of History and African American Studies at Emory University. He is the author or editor of seven books, an eleven-volume history of African Americans for young adults, and scores of essays and articles about African-American history and life.
